NSW:Seven hurt as lightning strikes NSW school
SYDNEY, Aug 30 AAP - A bolt of lightning has injured a teacher and at least six children
in Tamworth, in northwest NSW.
Paramedics rushed to Tamworth High School just after 2pm (AEST) on Tuesday, a NSW Ambulance
spokeswoman said.
Lightning struck a tree, severing a branch which struck a woman on the head.
Six children aged between 13 and 15 suffered flash burn, which is a painful inflammation
of the cornea when a person's eyes are exposed to bright ultraviolet (UV) light.
The woman and the children were taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment.
Eight other children present at the scene did not appear to be injured but went to
the same hospital for observation.
