NSW: Man charged as police hunt two others over double murder

SYDNEY, Dec 24 AAP - A 31-year-old NSW man has been charged with double murder as policehunt another two suspects over the deaths in outback Queensland.

Two children spent last night in protective custody after police found the bodies oftheir 26-year-old mother and her 21-year-old boyfriend in a car boot in bushland nearGoondiwindi in south-west Queensland.

It is believed both victims were shot. They are yet to be positively identified.

The bodies were discovered in a white Holden Commodore, 35km east of Goondiwindi, offWiaga Road just before 8am (AEST), a police spokeswoman said.

A 31-year-old Port Macquarie man, who was travelling with his eight-year-old son, turnedhimself in to Bathurst police yesterday afternoon.

"(He) was arrested and charged with two counts of murder which relate to an early morningincident in Goondiwindi in Queensland where two people were found dead in the boot ofa Holden Commodore," a police spokesman said.

Authorities in NSW and Queensland were still searching for the man's son, and two other people.

"Police in both states are looking for a 37-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman travellingwith four children aged five to 11 years," the spokesman said.

The charged man is expected to face Bathurst Local Court later today for a bail hearing.
