SA: Challenge to SA speaker's election win starts
A bid to overturn the election victory of controversial South Australian independentMP PETER LEWIS has started in the Court of Disputed Returns.
The action has been brought by the Liberal Party after party candidate BARRY FEATHERSTONElost out to Mr LEWIS in the February state election in the rural seat of Hammond.
Mr FEATHERSTONE has argued Mr LEWIS misled electors by indicating before the poll thathe would NOT support a Labor government.
Labor won office in South Australia when Mr LEWIS decided to give the ALP his supporton the floor of state parliament, giving it the majority it needs to govern.
Earlier this month, the full bench of the South Australia Supreme Court rejected MrLEWIS'S claim the Court of Disputed Returns was not the appropriate court to hear thematter.
The trial is expected to last a week.
